Lux Clock Manufacturing Company was founded in 1914 by Paul Lux, who started his clock business with his family after working at the Waterbury Clock Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. Lux's company, also located in Waterbury, produced only clock movements in its early years, eventually producing entire clock units. The business grew throughout the 1920s and 30s, and by the late-1930s was producing 3,000 clocks per day. With the outbreak of WW II, the company shifted to war related products, returning to clock manufacture after the war, and by 1959 added a facility in Ontario, Canada. In 1961, thermostat and HVAC control maker Robertshaw Controls Company bought the Lux Clock Manufacturing Company, creating the Lux Time Division. By 1991 Robertshaw sold the consumer division of the company, which became Lux Products Corporation, which continues to produce thermostats and timers, including the manual Lux Minute Minder kitchen timer, arguably its most recognizable product.
