A sculptor and engraver, Jacques-Philliped the Beauvais was the son of the printmaker Nicolas-Daupin de Beauvais (1687-1763) and a student of Guillaume Coustou the younger (1716-1777) at the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. In 1767 Beauvais was awarded a scholarship to the French Academy in Rome, where he stayed until 1772.
