Jules Hardouin Mansart
French architect and garden designer. He was the student and great-nephew of the architect François Mansart. He directed the construction and design of Versailles under Louis XIV from 1678, specifically of the Galerie des Glaces, the Grand Trianon, the chapel, and the Orangery. Mansart also designed the Place des Victoires, the Place Vendôme, and the Dôme des Invalides in Paris. Mansart was ennobled in 1683, and became the Baron de Jouy, and then the Comte de Sagonne in 1693. He attained the post of "Superintendent des bâtiments du roi" in 1699.
