Founded by Jan Cicero, her eponymous gallery operated from 1974 to 2003. The gallery is often noted for its early focus on abstract artists working in Chicago, its role in introducing the art of Native American artists to audiences outside the Southwest, and its representation of women artists in late- and early-career stages. The gallery mainly focused on painting, but also showed some works on paper, and was an early pioneer in the development of two gallery districts in Chicago: The West Hubbard Street alternative corridor (1970s) and the River North district (1980s).
