The Studio Museum in Harlem

The Studio Museum in Harlem opened in a loft space just north of 125th Street in Manhattan in 1968. Founded by a diverse group of artists, activists, and philanthropists, the Museum is a nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally, and internationally. The programs at the Studio Museum feature work that has been inspired and influenced by black culture, acting as a site for exchange of ideas about art and society through their education department, artist-in-residence program, and permanent collection.
