Ruth Adler Schnee
Ruth Adler Schnee (American b. Germany, 1923) has had a long and prolific career as an interior designer and space planner, textile designer, and modern design retailer. After her family’s home in Dusseldorf was destroyed during the Kristallnacht pogrom, and her father briefly detained at Dachau, the family fled to the United States, and settled in Detroit. Showing early promise in art, she studied at Cass Technical High School, graduating in 1942. In 1944 she received a fellowship to the Harvard University Graduate School of Architecture and Design, where she studied under Walter Gropius.
