Victor David Brenner
Victor David Brenner is a Litvak-American sculptor and engraver who is most well-known as the designer of the Lincoln penny. Taught gem and seal engraving by his father, he emigrated to America in 1890. He studied with Oscar Roty at the Academie Julian, and is associated with Auguste Rodin, who predicted great things to come of him. The Lincoln penny that he designed is the longest-running design in United States Mint history. Lincoln's feature on the penny was requested by President Theodore Roosevelt due to his high praise of the president. During his time in America, Brenner was considered one of the nation's premier medallists.
