Charles Wild

A pupil of the topographical and architectural draftsman Thomas Malton (1726–1801) and an accomplished architectural draftsman himself, Charles Wild was responsible for drawing the interior views of Carlton House for William Henry Pyne’s The History of the Royal Residences. Twenty-four of the original watercolors are in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle, including four other views of interiors at Carlton House. They were exhibited at the Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1817 and 1818, and were identified in the handlist as being for Pyne’s publication. (JGK)
