Trained as an artist, Mrs. Mary Quinn Sullivan taught at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and began collecting art after marrying lawyer Cornelius Sullivan. Following a chance transatlantic boat ride with Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Sullivan, with Rockefeller and Lillie Bliss, became one of the founders of the Museum of Modern Art.
