Ruudt Peters studied medical instrument making at Fysiological Labor in Leiden, The Netherlands from 1967 to 1970, then jewelry design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy from 1970 to 1974. Since 1974, he has worked as a freelance visual artist in Amsterdam. He has held a number of teaching positions, including Head of the Jewelry Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, from 1990 to 2000. Along with creating his own art, he has curated the work of other artists, and has sat on several design award juries. His own work has garnered a number of honors, including the Herbert Hofmann Award and the Françoise van den Bosch Award. His work is also featured in many public collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
