Marian Clayden
Marian Clayden was born in Preston, England, and attended the Nottingham School of Art. In the late 1960s, she moved to California’s Bay Area where she abandoned painting and began a new career as a textile designer, using the dyeing technique of shibori. In 1981, she launched her own brand, Clayden Inc. She is best known for hand- dyeing her garments, printed silk, cut-velvet and lace fabrics. Her label, which closed in 2005, designed evening wear for high profile clients.
