Palmer Luckey was born in 1992 in Long Beach, California. He was homeschooled by his mother but began taking college courses when he was in his mid-teens. As a teenager, Luckey demonstrated a serious interest in electronics and earned money repairing iPhones; he used the money to purchase virtual reality headsets, amassing a collection of more than 50. At the age of 17 in his parents’ garage, Luckey created his first prototype for what would become the Oculus Rift.
