An early fascination with aircraft led Glen Winterscheidt to become a pilot of the Martin Mariners in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After serving in the Navy and training to be an aeronautical engineer, Winterscheidt considered other career options and contacted General Motors about the possibility of on the job training in order to become an automotive designer. GM advised Winterscheidt to attend the Art Center School or Pratt for training. Following their advice, he graduated from Art Center College of Design in 1957 and was immediately hired by General Motors, where he spent a 32-year career contributing to the design of fins on GM automobiles. First assigned to the Cadillac Studio under Chuck Jordan, he also assisted Jack Humbert in the Pontiac Styling Studio. Winterscheidt retired in 1989.
