Textile, Chrysanthemums

This is a Textile.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from The Cleveland Museum of Art as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

It is dated 1925. Its medium is silk, artificial gold thread; twill based jacquard weave.

For the 1925 Paris Exposition, Maison Bertrand produced a silk fabric with large-scale embroidered chrysanthemums that resemble tumbling fireworks displays. Among the many sumptuous textiles presented by Maison Bertrand, this was probably intended for use in a coat or shawl.

It is credited Lent by The Cleveland Museum of Art, John L. Severance Fund, 2003.42.
