Chandelier

This is a Chandelier. It was designed by William Hunt Diederich. It is dated ca. 1925. Its medium is cut steel and wrought iron.

Raised on his father’s horse farm in Hungary, Diederich’s preoccupation with animals began with making paper cutouts as a child, reinforced by stints as a cowboy in the American West. He also modernized the silhouette in domestic ironwork, mixing it with American folk art elements, to produce stylized representations, often of animals.

It is credited Collection of the Newark Museum, Gift of Herman A. E. and Paul C. Jaehne, 1939, 39.180.
