Textile, Mini-stripe with scallop, 1970–79
This is a Textile. It was designed by D.D. Tillett and Leslie Tillett. It is dated 1970–79 and we acquired it in 2015. Its medium is tussah silk and its technique is hand-pulled stripe, ink applied with drag box, screen printed, on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Since each fabric was custom-printed to order, there were no fixed names for the Tillett’s textiles, and no set colorways. The descriptive titles used reinforced the artisanal aspect of their business. This extraordinary wallcovering silk combines a hand-pulled mini-stripe in a variety of neutral tones, overlaid with a screen-printed scallop in a glossy pigment brown.
