Magazine Cover, Wendingen, vol. 11, no. 5
This is a Magazine Cover. It was designed by Arthur Staal and published by Constantinus Alting Mees. It is dated 1930. Its medium is lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.
Each issue of the Dutch magazine Wendingen, published between 1918 and 1931, is dedicated to a single theme. Staal's design for Wendingen's 1930 issue on Dutch urban planning employs bold red lettering and a rectangle superimposed over an aerial image of a city plan. The same year that he designed this cover for Wendingen, Staal launched his career as an architect; he became known for his modernist office buildings and won the gold medal for architecture at the Prix de Rome in 1935.
