This is a book illustration. It was designed by Francis Jourdain and written by M. M. Matet and published by H. Ernst. It is dated ca. 1929. Its medium is pochoir print on paper. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.
Tapis modernes consists of more than 50 pochoir plates of art deco and cubist designs for fabric and carpets created by various individuals and workshops, including Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso, Maison Myrbor, and Ateliers da Silva Bruhns. This is one of several illustrated works published by H. Ernst in the 1920s and 1930s to promote contemporary French design. Francis Jourdain, a French painter, graphic artist, and designer, created modernist designs for ceramics, furniture, and textiles. This carpet design features an intricate maze-like pattern of squares and rectangles.
