Book Illustration, Catalogue "G": Illustrating the Plumbing and Sanitary Department of J. L. Motts Iron Works, Decorated Porcelain Folding Urinals
This is a book illustration. It was written by J.L. Mott Iron Works and published by J.L. Mott Iron Works and lithographer: Sarony, Major & Knapp. It is dated 1888. Its medium is colored lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.
J. L. Motts Iron Works sought to design everyday fixtures for the home that were both functional and beautiful. One curious design was its line of decorated porcelain folding urinals. These fixtures met the functional needs of being ventilated and clean but, when folded shut, added a decorative element to the wall. It is a remarkable example of design energy dedicated to transforming a quotidian, even lowly, object.
It is credited Collection of Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
