Photograph, Ceiling Light
This is a Photograph. It was designed by Saunier Duval Frisquet and photographed by Thérèse Bonney. It is dated ca. 1925. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.
After 1925, Bonney tirelessly documented French decorative arts from exhibitions and from the manufacturers themselves. Saunier Duval Frisquet began in 1907, when Charles Saunier and Maurice Duval acquired a heating and gas fittings manufacturing company—Henry Frisquet became a partner in 1916. The business expanded to include lighting and was responsible for the majority of the public lighting fixtures in Paris. Art deco lighting is known for the “upside-down” fixture shape, which is designed to emit softer, more diffused light to shift focus from the brightness and heat of an exposed bulb to the design of the space.
