Poster, Media Literacy is an Imagination
This is a Poster. It was designed by Shiro Shita Saori and made for (as the client) Ad Council Japan. It is dated 2014 and we acquired it in 2014. Its medium is digital print on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
For her first poster campaign designed for Ad Council of Japan on the theme “Media Literacy is an Imagination,” Shiro Shita Saori turned to the classic Japanese proverb of the three wise monkeys that embody the maxim “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” For the poster playing on the first element of the maxim, “see no evil,” Saori illustrated a collective of identical, stylized white figures with stark black eyes. Saori then hid the title of the poster beneath two black bars, a clever play on the illusion that in our media saturated age, the flood of information may make it difficult to see clearly.
This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled See No Evil.
