Flatware, Hybrid Flatware and Prototypes

This is a Flatware. It was designed by Constantin Boym, Laurene Leon Boym and Boym Partners and manufactured by Gourmet Settings.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Boym Partners as part of Beautiful Users.

It is dated 2007. Its medium is foam, foamcore, cardboard, stainless steel.

Designers Constantin and Laurene Leon Boym often use existing objects as models and inspiration. In their designs for Gourmet Settings, the designers considered how users actually live with their flatware. Over time, forks and knives go astray and mix in with other sets. The intentionally “mismatched” Hybrid flatware pattern emulates the social life of everyday things.
