Lavendoux Brooch
This is a Brooch. It was designed by Svenja John. It is dated 2002 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is water jet-cut, surface treated, hand-colored and crafted polycarbonate (makrofol®). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
With Lavendoux, John recreates a blossoming flower using the latest in digital technology. During planning, she sketches and models the piece. She then uses a water jet cutter to cut the shapes from a polycarbonate sheet. She further works the components by hand, carefully adding naturalistic details and assembling the form. John's technique creates intricate pieces that balance industrial fabrication and handcrafting.
