Bracelet
This is a Bracelet. It was designed by Doris Betz. It is dated 1997 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is sawn, sheet plastic bands (hosta-glas) wrapped in iron wire. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
In 1997, Doris Betz started working with hosta-glas, a new plastic. Through experimentation she found it well suited for jewelry and resilient enough to tolerate many construction techniques. This bracelet, made from strips of hosta-glas bound together by fine iron wire, unexpectedly utilizes the iron as both a structural element and ornamental component.
