Color Blanket, Hint
This is a Color blanket. It was produced by Designtex (American, founded 1961). It is dated 2016 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is 50% acrylic, 50% polyester and its technique is plain woven with chenille yarns. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Focusing on durable textiles that meet high performance applications for healthcare, education, hospitality, corporate and residential, Designtex created Hint. The fiber is specially formulated to be bleach cleanable for healthcare applications and easy to clean for all other applications. The designers added a comforting hand through the use of chenille yarns, without sacrificing performance and cleanability. Hint bridges the gap between the useful and the beautiful.
Usually a color blanket like this would be cut up with desired colors returned to the mill for production. The museum requested this color blanket from Designtex because of the difficulty of showing solid fabrics, and to better impart to the museum audience the process by which colorways are ultimately selected for a fabric line.
