Vase (USA), ca. 1910
This is a vase. It was made by Roycroft Shops. It is dated ca. 1910 and we acquired it in 2013. Its medium is hand-hammered copper, "german silver" (white metal alloy). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
German silver – although not true silver and often containing no silver at all – provided an inexpensive alternative with a similar aesthetic. Roycroft looked to produce low-cost objects that still reflected the hand-crafted look of the Arts and Crafts movement, created here by its linear decorative pattern of the silver-colored alloy known as “German silver”, in a copper form.
It is credited Gift of Harry C. Sigman.
It has the following markings
On underside; Roycroft insignia.
