Platform of Hope (Ashar Macha)
This is a Project. It was designed by Fourkan Pervez, Tuhofa Tasmi Tisha, Nasima Pervez and Faria Farzana Tithi and the design director was Khondaker Hasibul Kabir. It is dated 2008–2011. Its medium is bamboo, nuts, bolts, nails.
In Korail—the largest slum in the fastest growing megacity, Dhaka—open public space is rare. Khondaker Hasibul Kabir, an architect and lecturer at BRAC University, collaborated with the local Pervez family to initiate a new public space, the Platform of Hope. With help from a local carpenter and bamboo worker, they designed and built the 5.5 x 11 meter (18 x 36 ft) platform extending over Gulshan Lake. A bamboo bridge connects it to a lush community garden. It is a clean space where children can play; in the evening, families gather for relaxation. The platform and garden have generated hope for a cleaner and greener place.
