Salt Shaker Shaker
This is a Shaker. It was designed by Charles Sheeler and manufactured by Revere Copper and Brass Company. It is dated 1935 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is aluminum alloy. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Charles Sheeler began his career as a commercial photographer and started working as an industrial designer concentrating on the design of glass tumblers and tableware items in the 1930s. In 1935 he developed these stainless steel salt and pepper shakers in keeping with his modernist aesthetic. Sheeler believed in pure, simple form, clean edges and an honest use of industrial materials. These shakers are the embodiment of this approach to the design of objects.
