Vase
This is a vase. It was manufactured by Coors Porcelain Company. It is dated 1930–1940 and we acquired it in 2015. Its medium is glazed earthenware. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This glazed earthenware vase by the Coors pottery of Colorado shows that by the 1930s, the popularity of modernism, particularly the skyscraper style, reached beyond the sophisticated up-market buyer to middle- and lower-market consumers as well. Coors introduced the vase, popularly known as the “Empire” vase, in the early 1930s, retailing for less than $1.20 during the Great Depression, and sold the model until about 1940.
