Drawing, Design for a Suit with Woven Shawl

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Daren Pierce and made for Bonnie Cashin.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Archives of American Art, New York, N.Y. as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.

It is dated ca. 1957. Its medium is graphite and color pencil on paper. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.

Liebes was frequently photographed in classic pieces by Cashin, and Cashin’s wardrobe and home were sprinkled with Liebes fabrics. This fringed shawl—a unique piece owned by Cashin—appears to have been a collaboration among three friends: Cashin, Liebes, and Pierce, who became a lifelong friend to both women.

It is credited Dorothy Liebes Papers, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 35.4 × 25.2 cm (13 15/16 × 9 15/16 in.)

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
