Ensemble, "Noh" Jacket and "Panung" Style Skirt

This is a Ensemble. It was designed by Dorothy Wright Liebes and Bonnie Cashin and manufactured by Philip Sills & Co..

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Museum of the City of New York as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.

It is dated 1957. Its medium is twill-woven wool with lurex, wool jersey lining, suede . It is a part of the Exhibitions department.


Liebes and Bonnie Cashin collaborated on special collections using handwoven Liebes fabrics in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The relaxed cut of the suit and its luxurious fabric shot through with Lurex suggests it was intended for elegant home entertainment.

It is credited Museum of the City of New York. Gift of Mr. Philip Sills, 1981.

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
