Sample, Sample for a Woven Blind

This is a Sample. It was designed by Dorothy Wright Liebes.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.

It is dated ca. 1955. Its medium is handwoven wood, plastic, various yarns, lurex. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.


Interior designer William Pahlmann frequently incorporated Liebes’s densely woven, multicolored, metallic blinds into his interiors. He used them in luxurious urban apartments, including the Matthew Fox Penthouse, where they served to ensure privacy, filter light, and create visual interest.

It is credited Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gift of Dorothy Liebes Design Inc., 1973.
