Textile
This is a Textile. It was designed by Dorothy Wright Liebes and manufactured by Goodall Fabrics.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Museum of Arts and Design as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
Liebes’s first industrial partner, Goodall Fabrics, hired her to develop fabrics combining multiple fibers. She worked directly with the factory technicians to adapt the looms to accommodate a wider variety of yarns and to recreate the look and feel of her handwoven fabrics. This fabric uses overshot wefts to mimic the effect of her most costly fringed handweaves.
It is credited Museum of Arts and Design, New York; gift of Dorothy Liebes Design and Ralph Higbee, through the American Craft Council, 1973.
Its dimensions are
H x W: 262.9 × 115.6 cm (8 ft. 7 1/2 in. × 45 1/2 in.)
This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
