Downloadable Template, Easy-To-Make Face Shield
This is a Downloadable template. It was designed by Tokujin Yoshioka. It is dated 2020 and we acquired it in 2021. Its medium is image (computer generated). It is a part of the Digital department.
During the first wave of the pandemic in early 2020, face masks and shields for first responders and other medical personnel were in short supply as demand far outstripped availability. As a result, many designers turned their attention to meeting this emergency need.
In April 2020, renowned Japanese artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka created a template for a low-cost do-it-yourself face shield that attaches to a wearer’s glasses. Elegant in its simplicity, the design of this downloadable and printable template consists of a flat oval with two small slits that slide over the arms of glasses. When cut from a flexible sheet of PVC or PET plastic, the shield bends around the sides of the face and is held in place. Yoshioka made the template freely available on his website, posting that he was “grateful to the brave and dedicated healthcare workers for fighting the contagious disease.”
