Panel, 18th–mid- 19th century

Point de Venise a Rose Flounce
(Needlepoint Lace)
Italian, 18th century

Identical in technique but finer in pattern than the gros points de Venise are the rose points. This deep flounce shows the beauty of these laces, used extensively in the 17th and 18th centuries for both ecclesiastical and secular costumes and furnishings.
