Border, 1880–1900

Point de Venise a Rose Border
(Needlepoint Lace)
Italian 18th century

The use of beautiful lace in religious ceremonies was not confined to Christian churches. The Point de Venise border was used for trimming this prayer scarf, or tallith used in Judaic ritual. It is made of silk rather than linen thread to comply with the canons of the Jewish tradition.
