Drawing, Textile Design: Akropolis (Acropolis), 1910–11
This is a Drawing. It was made for Wiener Werkstätte. It is dated 1910–11 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is brush and gouache on paper. It is a part of the department.
Pattern design was an early focus of the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop), which produced a large number of fabrics for furnishing and fashion. To communicate each pattern’s multiple colorways, members of the workshop hand-painted small samples in brush and gouache, each just large enough to illustrate the pattern’s repeat.
It is credited Museum purchase from Smithsonian Collections Acquisition and Decorative Arts Association Acquisition Funds.
Its dimensions are
7.5 x 21.3 cm (2 15/16 x 8 3/8 in.)
It has the following markings

It is inscribed
Inscribed in blue crayon, upper right: 39
