Textile, Omahar
This is a Textile. It was produced by Knoll Textiles. It is dated ca. 1977 and we acquired it in 2011. Its medium is cotton and its technique is screen printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Francisca Reichardt studied textile design at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg in Germany, under the renowned German print designer, Margaret Hildebrand. Reichardt produced work for Pausa AG, a textile firm with which. Knoll International head, Barbara Rhodes, had formed a strong relationship, commissioning successful print series by Gretl and Leo Wollner and Wolf Bauer. In 1971, Reichardt’s Omahar was produced by Knoll and printed by Pausa. It was technically challenging, requiring 14 screens to print its 30 ½-inch repeat. Omahar was included in the exhibition Knoll au Louvre, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where it won a certificate of recognition. Omahar was Reichardt's only design for Knoll and would be her first design in Cooper Hewitt’s collection.
