Sample, Chico
This is a Sample. It was produced by Knoll Textiles. It is dated ca. 1953 and we acquired it in 2011. Its medium is cotton. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Chico was the first of Knoll’s “budget” fabrics—lower-cost all-cotton alternatives to woolen upholsteries. The rationale behind bringing them into the line was to reduce the number of clients specifying fabrics from another company to upholster Knoll furniture. The luxury of textured weaves was recreated with complex color effects, using dark warps with colored wefts to impart a richness of color and a feeling of movement to these inexpensive fabrics.
