Book, Plate from Le Nozze degli Dei (The Wedding of the Gods), Festival at the Palazzo Pitti, Florence July 8, 1637

This is a Book. It was designed by Alfonso Parigi and print maker: Stefano della Bella and patron: Medici Family and Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici. It is dated 1637 and we acquired it in 1946. Le Nozze degli Dei (The Wedding of the Gods) was staged July 8, 1637, in the courtyard of the Pitti Palace, Florence. Choreographed and staged by Alfonso Parigi, the four-hour production was in honor of the marriage of Grand Duke Ferdinand II de'Medici to Vittoria della Rovere. The finale featured dancers, choruses, cavaliers, and floating Olympian gods. The dancers are spelling out the initials "FO" for Ferdinando and "VA" for Vittoria.
