Liquid Skin Drinking Cup
This is a drinking cup. It was manufactured by J. & L. Lobmeyr GmbH.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It has been able to spend time at the museum on loan from J. & L. Lobmeyr GmbH.
Barbara Ambrosz developed this thinly blown crystal vessel with pinched sides for the celebrated Austrian glass company, Lobmeyr. The company has had a long history since its inception in the early nineteenth century, working with designers from the Weiner Werkstatte, including Josef Hoffmann and Otto Prutscher. The firm helped found the Austrian Werkbund. The spirit of innovation has always been alive at Lobmeyr serving as a laboratory for designers to test new techniques and ideas. Ambrosz’s drinking cup is uniquely shaped to fit on top of a user’s fingertips, instead of being gripped by the hand.
