Pair Of Earrings (USA)

This is a Pair of earrings. It was retailed by Tinsel Trading Company. It is dated ca. 1890 and we acquired it in 2007. Its medium is carved tortoiseshell, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Tortoiseshell was a popular material for jewelry, combs, and other objects of personal adornment in the late nineenth century. The donor of these earrings, one of Cooper-Hewitt's founding supporters, was a descendant of the Tinsel Trading Company's owner.

This object was donated by Ms. Dorothy Warren. It is credited Gift of Dorothy Warren.
