Jug (England)
This is a Jug. It is dated 1820–60 and we acquired it in 2006. Its medium is yellow-ground and multi-colored painted decoration on molded stoneware. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This jug is an example of yellow ground ware, which was produced by English factories and exported to continental Europe starting in the late 18th century. The presence of bright colors is related to the American market.
This example comes to the museum as part of a larger collection of yellow ground ware. The collection represents a broad range of styles, and will greatly expand our ability to tell the history of ceramics and the flow of design influences.
