Goblet
This is a Goblet. It was manufactured by Riedel Crystal. It is dated ca. 1900–10 and we acquired it in 2006. Its medium is etched, enameled, and gilded mold-blown glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The overall effect of this piece is of a classic form with art nouveau decoration, reflective of its period and environment. The museum’s collection of glass has some strength in 18th-century central European engraved glass goblets. The goblet proposed for acquisition, however, would be the first example of its era and the first example of the unusual technique of fusing a multicolored element to the clear glass.
