Sidewall, Kew
This is a sidewall. It was retailed by Designtex. It is dated ca. 2000 and we acquired it in 2003. Its medium is screen-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
Kew is a new take on the traditional foliate design, based on botanical drawings designer Jocelyn Warner made at Kew Gardens. Warner creates her designs by scanning objects and manipulating the resulting images on her computer to simplify their forms. Kew is composed of bold brushstrokes of plants, screenprinted in one color on a color ground. Warner’s wallpapers illustrate how digital technology is influencing surface design.
Warner is a British designer based in London. She studied textile design at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and later at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design.
The acquisition of Kew would add more depth to our contemporary holdings. The paper also reflects new trends and techniques in contemporary wallpaper design.
This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled "Kew" Me In to Another Floral Wallpaper.
