Scrapbook, 1840–1910
This is a Scrapbook. It is dated 1840–1910 and we acquired it in 2003. Its medium is block-printed, machine-printed, and flocked samples. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This scrapbook is a collection of 98 samples of paper: 96 borders and two sidewalls. The scrapbook was most likely assembled by a dealer as each piece is marked with a price and total available yardage. The papers date from about 1840 to 1910. The designs include drapery swags, fancy gimp, rod and vine, architectural moldings, and geometric patterns. There are also large border corners paired with their borders. Most of the samples are block printed, some are flocked, and a few are machine printed.
The scrapbook proposed for acquisition would complement the museum’s collection of wallpaper sample books.
