Horse Wrapping Cloth (umakake) (Japan), late 18th century

This is a Horse wrapping cloth (umakake). It is dated late 18th century and we acquired it in 2001. Its medium is bast fiber, probably hemp and its technique is resist printed/painted; colored dyes added by stencil and by hand techniques. It is a part of the Textiles department.

It is credited Museum purchase from The Grodzins Fund for Textile Acquisition.
