Bambu vase from the Pasta Vitrea Series Vase
This is a vase. It was designed by Yoichi Ohira. It is dated 1998 and we acquired it in 1998. Its medium is glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Voichi Ohira moved to Venice soon after graduating from Tokyo's Kuwasawa Design School in 1969. His Bambu Vase fuses the bright colors of traditional Venetian glasswork with material motifs common to Japanese art. Ohira collaborated on the vase with master glassblower Livio Serena, who used the pasta vitrea technique to achieve its ceramic-like quality.
It is credited Museum purchase from Smithsonian Institution Collections Acquisition Program and General Acquisitions Endowment Funds.
