"Assyrian Head" Pattern Sugar Tongs Tongs
This is a tongs. It was designed by Rogers Brothers Silver and manufactured by Meriden Brittania Company. It is dated 1885–86 and we acquired it in 1996. Its medium is silver plated, metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

"When the refining process was perfected and uniform sugar cubes became available in teh late nineteenth century, a wide variety of elegant tongs was marketerd, some with narrow claw feet (fig. 22), other with broader, sptaula-like end."
It is credited Museum purchase from Decorative Arts Association Acquisition Fund.
