Hand Mirror with Dragon Hand Mirror
This is a Hand Mirror. It was manufactured by Lianchang, Chinese, active in Shanghai c. 1900-1940. It is dated ca. 1900 and we acquired it in 1997. Its medium is silver, glass, steel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Cultures converge in objects made in one country for use in another, like these grooming tools made in China for the western market. This dressing set includes a mirror, a pair of hair brushes, clothes brushes, and a combination shoehorn-buttonhook decorated with Chinese dragons. (Design for Life, 1997-98)
